Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring are professional men's singles figure skaters. They have been neck in neck competitively since their junior years. Now they are 24 and 27 years old.
After a rough juniors debut for Charlie 10 years prior an article quoted Nick his skating idol (out of context) dissing Charlies performance. He hated Nick from then on, and made it his mission to beat him whenever he could.
Nick never knew what he did to make Charlie Spring hate him so much. But after 10 years of being rivals, it just felt normal that they hated each other... only that was the problem. Nick didn't actually hate Charlie at all.

Charlie will never get enough of Nick’s warm skin on his or how tactile he is with him, always reaching to take his hand, locking their fingers whenever he’s in reach, pulling him in for a hug whenever he sees him as if they haven’t been living together for the past six months.
Nick dips his head into Charlie’s shoulder and his delicious smell of sandalwood and cinnamon permeates Charlie’s nose and it all becomes so overwhelming. Nick’s smell accompanied by his body pressed up against Charlie finally causes him to break. He physically can’t take the pent up emotions that he’s harboured for their entire friendship. He needs to talk to Nick now.
Or: Nick and Charlie have been best friends since secondary school. Now Charlie has something he needs to get off his chest after a night out with the paris squad.

“It was love at first sight,” Luke continued. “Proper romcom moment, if I’ve ever seen one. Little hearts were coming out of Nick’s eyes and the dude didn’t even make eye contact with him.”
“Kinda creepy mate,” Roger added, taking a sip of his drink.
“I’m not going to propose marriage to the guy, I just want to meet him. I don’t even know his sexuality either, I just, you know, felt a sort of instant connection.”
