In the 80s, Damiano David, a young anthropology professor, finds himself stuck in a loop of bad luck. Recently single and kicked out of his girlfriend's home, Damiano returns to his family's old plantation house that carries a large chunk of memories. One of them is a mysterious book he was obsessed with since he was a child. The volume was legacy from his father, who was an anthropologist, too and dreamed of visiting the mythical island of Rhua, situated in French Polynesia, but was denied access 22 times. Disheartened by his situation, Damiano decides to fulfill his dad's dream and gets an unusual answer. He and his assistant, Thomas are invited to visit Rhua, unexpectedly, on very short notice. In the heart of Rhua, Ethan lives as the human embodiment of the island's god Rhu. Faced with loneliness due to his position and its many restrictions, he dares to dream of a life different than the one he lives in, but the thought of losing what he has scares him. His caretaker and best friend Victoria is the only person he can rely on. His fear becomes even stronger when he starts having nightmares related to the newly arrived academic.
