With the unexpected help from the FBI — as they had been observing the unnatural phenomenon for years — the extensively trained agents immediately jumped into action once the victims made it to the other side. Haddie is...so, so different from Claudette. She's so determined and brave, and she understood the realm right away, faster than any of the other survivors.
For a little while, Claudette was afraid of her — she was sure that Haddie would realize the truth, that she was just an awkward and anxious university student when she was swallowed by the realm, not a doctor with life-saving expertise.
The idea that Haddie would, somehow, know that Claudette didn't deserve to be trusted to heal anyone had been enough to make Claudette avoid her.
But, inevitably, they were both summoned for a trial together.
