On November 23rd, 2004, Light Yagami, age eighteen, pled guilty to over one hundred thousand counts of murder under the alias of Kira. His trial set unprecedented history as the first ever, and likely the last ever, to include non-human entities as key witnesses. Notably, the shinigami Ryuk agreed to testify on Light Yagami’s behalf for quote, “entertainment and a favor to a longtime friend”. Many officers of the law from across the globe have stated that it is a miracle he was even granted a trial in the first place, as there was overwhelming evidence of his crimes, and due to the scale of his trangressions, it was very likely that he would have been simply executed quietly. However, the court seemingly intended to make an example out of him, that even the great and elusive Kira could be captured.
As most monumental government decisions do, it backfired. -

Summary
The most chaotic friend group at Tokyo High School meet up for just another study session after school. At least, it would have been just another study session if they'd stayed away from that ancient, suspicious-looking volume in the back of the library. Too late. The Shinigami that jumps out is both now their responsibility and all too happy to ruin their lives for his own morbid entertainment.
Or, the one where Kiyomi is struggling to fix her bedroom wall, Misa is arrested, Light's locker burns down, Teru is on the brink of expulsion, and Ryuk is living his best life.

Under Light’s gaze, in the most sickening way, L felt at home. It was a grotesque comfort, like a beaten dog returning to its master, or a bird willingly folding its wings to slip back into its cage. He felt like he had been drawn here, not by force, but by something far more dangerous—a universal gravity that existed between them, binding them in ways even he couldn’t fully untangle.
He had let Light live, defying his better judgement, because the thought of it ending, of severing the only connection that had ever truly stirred him, was unbearable. In a world of logic and order, where every thread eventually unravelled into neat conclusions, Light was the one thread that defied him. The chaos in his otherwise meticulous universe.
He was Icarus and Light was his sun, and now he had been forced back into his orbit.

Malgré ses recherches, L ne découvre rien de suspect chez Archer, ignorant que ses données sont falsifiées et que cet étudiant cache un secret bien plus grand. Désormais, L doit affronter à la fois Kira et cet étrange génie.
