Summary
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Mercury survived Marcus Black. He killed the man. It cost him nearly everything, but he did it. He naively thought that he would be entitled to his happy ending. He thought nothing could be more dangerous than living with Marcus Black. He's wrong and it costs him everything else. Like most lessons, it had to be beaten into him. He thought he was different from his father, but who was he to call the man, black?
From Marcus Black to Cinder Fall. A short story of the Tragic Tale of Mercury.

Summary
Gray is the color of his hair, his clothes. Gray is the color of clouds in overcast skies. Gray is what Mercury sees in his eyes whenever he looks in the mirror.
Silver is the bullets he stores in his boots. Silver is Emerald’s belt, silver is the color of power. Silver is what makes up Mercury’s legs. Silver is the truth of Mercury’s cold, deathlike stare. But…no one can know that.
So Mercury hides it. He wears the sunglasses that Cinder gave him, and he sticks to what he knows best: pain and violence. But hiding his silver won’t work forever. Eventually, everything will come to light, and once the truth is revealed, nothing will be the same.

Summary
"Are we going to die?"
Emerald's voice is quiet in the dark, but it's loud enough that Roman wakes up. He can feel Neo start to stir next to him in the bed, as disturbed by the whispered intrusion as he'd been - quickly, he turns to pet Neo's hair and soothe her back to sleep. Doesn't see a need for them both to deal with this. And as Neo settles, calmed by her partner's familiar touch, Roman waits for his eyes to adjust to where he can see the pile of blankets Neo had arranged on the floor.
Emerald should be in that pile. So should Mercury, who Roman assumes the girl had been talking to. Or -
No. He can't see Mercury's shape at all. Just Emerald's.
"Mr. Torchwick?" she repeats - quieter, yet with more urgency. "Are we going to die?"

Summary
“Trash?” Oscar remarks, unable to stop the exasperation from leaking into his voice. Sure enough, the back alley is full of it, a few square feet away from being a full-on junkyard. Heaps of scrap metal and debris from the abandoned buildings standing on either side are piled together, years and years of trash towering above the two of them. “You brought me all the way out here to see a big pile of garbage?”
“Close,” Mercury replies, stretching his arms over his head. “I brought you all the way out here to smash a big pile of garbage.”
And before Oscar can respond to that, Mercury snaps his metal leg forward, kicking a pile of debris down with an explosive ‘crack’! Oscar jumps as the pile collapses, dust billowing up from the heap.
“W-why?” Oscar asks, as Mercury steps over a hubcap, seemingly looking for something in the wreckage.
“Helps me feel better.” Mercury picks up a long iron stake, noticing the rusty sheen on its surface, before throwing it behind him. “Good way to blow off some steam.”

Summary
“Give that back.” Sure enough, there was a large gash on his face, and while it was already in the process of ‘healing’ and by that, she meant having that disgusting grimm crap grow over it, it looked pretty deep.
“If you leave that open, it’ll just get infected.” Emerald remarked, wiping some of the black gunk off of the back of the mask with her sleeve.
“...It’ll heal.” Oscar mumbled, and she almost detected a hint of embarrassment in his voice.
“No, it’ll just scar over black like the rest of the gunk on your face.” When he didn’t respond, Emerald just sighed. “Look, can I just - help you with that?”

Mercury Black wasn't made in a day. Without a Semblance, his legs, or anyone by his side, the world taught him far too quickly that power was all it took to succeed- and Mercury would need all the power he could get. He'd reach the sky eventually.
