Eventually, after who knows how long, Dazai settled on, “you should be so mad at me.”
“Is that so?” Chuuya asked, not nearly as alarmed as Dazai expected. “Well, I am pissed at you, true. You got the damn carpet dirty, yesterday. Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it was to clean?”
Chuuya likely expected Dazai to laugh; it was a very clear attempt at bringing the mood up a little.
Perhaps it did, but Dazai didn’t laugh.
“No,” he said, then paused and quickly backtracked. “Well, yes, I did do that. But that isn’t what I’m talking about.”
“You should be mad at me,” he repeated, “for everything.”
Or: Dazai doesn't quite understand why Chuuya isn't mad at him. Maybe Chuuya can help him understand.

“There’s no need to cry like that, Poe-kun,” he assured him with a snicker, a sadistic noise that told Edgar just how much he enjoyed having him in this position. “Your story was good! Better than last time! Just not enough for the likes of me. I am the greatest mind out there after all, it’ll take you eons to catch up to me.”
Edgar sniffled, quivering in front of him, holding back the evergrowing urge to reach his hands forward and throttle the man. He couldn’t do that. Because he truly didn’t know what would be left for him in this world without Ranpo.
“… You’re.. too cruel..” Edgar had forced out in between his sobs, his voice watery and disconsolate. “I don’t know.. what you want of me anymore.”
“Is it not obvious?” Ranpo cocked his head to the side, though the smile on his face didn’t waver. He reached a slow hand forward and grasped at Edgar’s chin with his thumb and pointer. Edgar shivered.
Ranpo’s green eyes glimmered impishly as he forced Edgar to meet them, and he leaned in close enough that Edgar could feel his breath as it hit his face, smell the sickening sweetness of whatever snacks he had been indulging himself with prior to having met up with Edgar.
“I want a date.”
