Like most things, it went back to Leo, his boyfriend. Whenever Leo caused a mess, had done something amazing, or was being a pain, Jason was always one of the first people to hear about it. Typically, though, most people decided to inform him whenever it was something negative regarding Leo since he was the only person they viewed as having some semblance of control over Leo. Truthfully, he didn’t have control over him, he just knew how to speak Leo’s language and come to an agreement with him. A lot of the time it was bribery. It wasn’t his fault Leo was very easy to bribe.

Things are going seriously wrong in Elysium. It started when Leo Valdez and Hazel Levesque fell from the sky without even dying. But when a five year old Max Bennett dies unexpectedly and a now seventeen year old Bianca di Angelo falls into Elysium, Jason Grace doesn't know what to think. But people falling from the sky should be the least of his worries. In order to go back to where they came from, the three of them must face the Death Trials, a series of tests to prove if one is worthy of returning to the mortal world. It’s been a minute since he’s gotten to actually see him. Most of Leo is the same - the same raging curls that fly with every punch he throws; the same crazed glimmer in his eyes as he fights with his punching bag. But from this far, Jason can’t help but to notice the changes, too - he’s gotten taller, almost Jason’s height, and his arms - all open and bare, thanks to Leo’s muscle shirt - have undoubtedly become more defined, the lines of his muscles flexing with every punch. His hair’s grown a little longer, falling over his eyes and curling over his ears, and Jason thinks he spots new piercings twinkling around them. A window above Leo lets a little light seep through, and it drapes over him, turning his skin into gleaming bronze.
Jason’s breath hitches at the sight. Even sweating, even out of breath, he’s more beautiful than Jason remembers.
Then Leo turns to him, and all of Jason’s admiration gives way to pure terror.

Secretly, he hopes there's a boy out there, riding the back of the dragon, and Jason hopes he can feel the lightning Jason had made just for him.

They'd sat on the steps of some shitty run-down apartment, except this year there weren't any fireworks. It was pouring rain, soaking through Leo's clothes, steam rising from his skin. Leo couldn't tell what was rain or tears on his face anymore, as cracks of lightning split the sky and thunder rolled through the city.
"I want to go home," Leo sobs, a shaking raspy breath pulling from his throat.
He looks back to the sky, looks at the lightning, listens to the thunder, and mutters prayers to the gods for safe travels.
He doesn't get them.
Or, four times Jason missed Leo, and the one time Leo missed Jason.
