The Dame de Doubtance’s prophecy for Francis Crawford’s future was vexed for some time by the fact that the First Baron Culter had already fathered a son by her daughter. But when that child came to her asking to live as a girl, and saying she’d always been one in her heart, the heavens’ course became clear.
Some years after Güzel’s help was enlisted in providing for the fate of the girl now known as Marthe and helping her grow into a woman, Güzel decides to celebrate her coming-of-age at the ladies’ hamam in the palace at the Citadel of Aleppo. There are perhaps some ulterior motives in arranging for Marthe to be alone with her there as well.

Day 10: riffing on the tekke scene. Everyone is behaving badly, but Jerott in particular deserves to be tased. CW: casual bigotry about Native Americans, drug use (mescaline), hallucinations, SA, followed by use of an electric prod on another person. Also big aaagh I don't have a sensitivity reader for this. Concrit will be accepted and acted upon, but by and large the warnings are for Jerott being deliberately obtuse. -
