“Interesting. You think you’re hallucinating me?”
Marc snorts ungracefully, his eyes wet at the corners. Even though Valentino is not real, he doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction of crying, not when he’s caught up in his arms, unable to wriggle himself away.
“Yeah, of course. The real you – the real Valentino would have never come all this way just to…what, hold me and sing me to sleep? Come on. Be for real, tío.”
“I wasn’t thinking about singing you to sleep, honestly. I’m quite bad at it, you would laugh at me instead of sleeping.”
Marc humors the hallucination, sticking his tongue out and blowing something akin to a raspberry. It comes out warped, shallow, but he’s made the effort and that’s – quite a lot, considering that he has spent the past thirty-six hours wallowing in self pity, still and unmoving until all of his joints and muscles screamed and spasmed, forcing him to change positions.Marc believes he's tripping on his pain meds when Valentino shows up at his door, determined to help him with a particularly vicious fit of insomnia that has been keeping him awake for thirty-six hours straight.

Dovi experienced jealousy so acrid he wanted to empty his stomach of it, so thick he could almost chew on it with his teeth. It coloured his vision dark, and gave him anger that he knew was unwarranted.
He wondered unhappily, did Valentino know Marc as he deserved to be known? Love him as he deserved to be love?

Bez is waiting for his new client - who he definitely has no crush on, no matter what Luca says! - when Vale motivates him to put up the Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, it doesn't end so well for Bez and he hits his head pretty hard.
Somehow, he ends up in the lap of said client, who admittedly looks very good, and he also gets the chance to get carried by him, while he accidentially calls him his angel. But he can blame that on the concussion!

Maybe Luca was right, maybe he has a crush on him. Which is certainly unrequited.

Now, he watches him skirt past another bike - Enea’s? - and he needs to suppress the urge to race him again, just to get his blood pumping through the day.
Another couple of laps pass like this – drowsy, somehow, because it’s not enough of a challenge to warm up the front tyre, to collect data on the maximum performance, on the graining and the degradation, on the synergy between engine, tyre life and energy consumption. He’s not an engineer, though he knows his bikes well: what really interests Marc in terms of performance is to win. He could do it on a flat tyre, he has demonstrated he can do it in underperforming machinery, so he’s just. Getting bored to death, to put it mildly. He gets a little jittery, also, when he’s not properly racing, only playing around. Something inside him slams and bangs, rattling his bones, like a creature creeping inside the door it has splintered – surely, this time, it’s all Valentino’s fault. Valentino and his all too imposing presence, challenging him, calling for him.Marc and Valentino still know the steps to their own personal dance too well not to perform it together one last time instead of talking like adults should.
