Alec is given a special task by the consul: find Magnus Bane and bring him back to Alicante to complete a job for Malachi. Though the job in question must remain a secret, Malachi assures Alec that it's simple. Magnus will only take a bit of persuasion before he agrees to take it.
It doesn't take long for Alec to track Magnus to the Idris countryside, but he quickly finds himself flustered around the notorious warlock. The more time they spend together, the more he becomes convinced that Malachi's true intentions are far more sinister than he is willing to admit.

Summary

“Who dares summon me!”, manages to say Magnus, trying to pretend he wasn’t momentarily stunned by the rush of want this Shadowhunter provoked in him.Alec, remembering that he’s not supposed to stand there ogling, replies with unfortunately the very cliché dialogue present in all the summoning instruction manuals, “Oh great one, grant me my wish”. Alec can’t help but blush at the corny sentence, or how the man in front of him smirks at his inevitable deadpanned tone.
Magnus lifts an eyebrow and keeping his voice powerful and solemn says, “Give me your soul, and I’ll give you anything you want”
“Give you my soul”, replies Alec a bit breathless, unable to stop being mesmerized by everything this man does.
“Yes, that is the price, but what is it that you want in exchange”, says a still amused Magnus.
“It’s both”, answers Alec, steadying himself, and ignoring the Clave whispering around him. He knows why, because this wasn’t part of the plan, this man in front of him wasn’t part of the plan.

A story of finding love even in the darkest of places.
Valentine wins control of Idris and soon the Shadow World, enslaving or killing all Downworlders. A small rebellion remains, led by Magnus Bane and a small group of Nephilim. Alec and Jace meet as children but are separated when Jace is sent to the front lines by his adoptive father, Valentine. Alec joins the rebellion as a spy but he is captured and sentenced to a life in slavery.
Jace finds Alec again much later and gets Valentine to give Alec to him as his own slave. They fall in love and later become parabatai. They realize things have to change to keep Alec safe and start a coup against Valentine, killing off their enemies one by one. Until, finally, they win control of Idris and restore equality in the Shadow World. -
