Ryo’s face is still close and his pupils are blown so wide there’s only a sliver of blue remaining- like an eclipsed moon, Akira thinks giddily. Ryo smirks and then the warmth of him and his big fluffy coat are gone, he’s standing up and downing his entire beer in one go, head tilted back. He finishes and wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and then walks towards the shifting crowd of people, as he passes a table he breaks the glass bottle on the edge. Ryo brandishes it like a weapon by the neck, the jagged edges of glass stick out like knives and quickly Akira understands. A black sabbath requires pleasures of the flesh, the music, the lights and symbols and most importantly… sacrifice.

Akira's friend Ryo has just come back from abroad... and he's hot. Akira is swept off his feet. But Ryo wants to go to a Sabbath party and sin, and Akira wants to, even after Noel *specifically* told him that sinning was bad. In fact, the worse Ryo acts, the more Akira finds him attractive.
Meanwhile, Ryo *really* enjoys it when Akira is kind and selfless.

The demon’s mouth closes in, teeth getting closer and closer and Akira can feel something burn deep in his core, down in his very heart and soul. It burns hotter than anything he’s ever felt, like being roasted alive from the inside out, a star dying and being reborn all again within him. A wall breaks inside of him and the heat spreads through his entire body, he closes his eyes in pain, feeling like hellfire itself it tearing him apart. His whole life flashes before his eyes, and he can feel someone else in his mind, watching too, taking stock and inventory of his memories. He more feels than hears a powerful growl and realizes the noise is coming out of his own mouth, something clicks finally inside him and this odd invading force settles in the forefront of his mind.
“Now… we can fulfill our purpose… Akira-“ A deep rumbling subconscious voice purrs out at him, “We can protect Him… as it was always meant to be.”
That fixit that every devilman fan writes one day to cure their broken heart. Happy ending guaranteed :)

He blinks back to the present when Taro calls to him, pointing at his bowl. Oh. He hadn’t been paying attention. His hands must have moved on autopilot, dipping rice and opening the small single serving packet of bonito flakes.
“Yeah,” he answers blankly, and dumps on the flakes. They writhe and twist in the steam.
You wanna know why they move like that? It’s because they’re still writhing in pain from being sliced so thin!!
—his father’s face leaps to mind, a familiar memory, wearing a comical bug-eyed frown, sitting across from him in the afternoon sunlight—

The old shrines were slowly forgotten about over centuries of human life. People found their own way, no longer depending as much on superstition and worshipping. Because of that, most shrines became overgrown, their gods lost to time, while the more popular ones remained as historical sites and tourist attractions.
