Ava Silva dreams of finding her soulmate, but after their train wreck date she knows it is not Beatrice. When new business partner Camila gushes about how happy she is that she and Beatrice hit it off, Ava is more than confused.
Beatrice begs Ava to go along with it, and she reluctantly agrees to pretend they are dating. After all, there's no chance they will catch real feelings.

Beatrice had a feeling. She knew the world was up to something. Something had been brewing underneath the earth’s surface– she just couldn’t pinpoint what back then. The faint noise of the TV only provides a crude reminder of how fucked up her life had gotten compared to three days ago, before everything went to shit, before the outbreak started.

Just a week before, Beatrice was moving in with her childhood friend– now newly wedded to her as her wife –to an outrageously priced condominium all thanks to a government program providing funds for its special operative personnel, including both military and police forces, for housing. If she was to be completely honest, she didn’t really need it. She already had a nice place of her own. Even if it was more of a place to sleep and catch up on reading the newest books by her favorite authors when she wasn’t on deployment then it was a home.
But with Ava Silva, the newly renovated– all to Ava’s taste –condominium unit still radiating the awful smell of paint and chemicals didn’t seem too far off the mark when she decided to label it as her home. Home sweet home.

The first thing that she noticed upon entering the pod was the rhythmic sound of a tennis ball bouncing off of a wall. Which was odd, because since when were they given tennis balls?
Beatrice cleared her throat. “Where did you get that?” She asked, genuinely wanting to know the answer.
Instead of receiving an answer however, Beatrice overheard the echo of the ball hitting the wall one last time before hitting whoever it was that had been throwing it, most likely in the face.
“Motherfucker!” The strange woman groaned, her voice sounding nasally as if she were covering her nose with her hand.
Out of pure instinct, Beatrice looked around the room for tissues before quickly realizing that even if she found some, it wasn’t like she could get to the woman unless she was willing to burst through the wall like the Kool-Aid man, that is.
“Are you okay?” She settled for instead.
“Yeah, no, sorry just gave myself a bloody nose is all. No biggie. Hey, do you think they have any tampons in this thing?”
