Louisa hesitated for a moment, then remembered what her original plan for the evening had been—takeout and white wine alone on the couch—and immediately decided she would stay. Even if it was horrible, it would still be more entertaining than whatever crappy made-for-TV movie that Netflix decided to throw at her tonight.

If someone were to ask why River holds room in his heart for Spider, he might say something half true like, “I’ve known him a long time.” Or “we grew up together.” Or maybe even a straight up lie like, “he hasn’t always been like this.”
It probably lies in the same reasoning as to why he humiliates himself for Lamb’s approval, or why he feels the closest to Louisa when she’s pissed at him. He’s some sort of masochist. He didn’t get enough attention as a kid. He has a humiliation fetish. Whatever the reason, River feels a terrible overwhelming sense of fondness for Spider. How awful.
