Clef awoke with a start. His nerves felt like they were stinging, everything felt painful, everything was wrong. He could feel tears running down his face, and he could tell his breathing was less than calm. Was he having a panic attack? He couldn’t tell.
One thing he could tell for certain, though, was that there was a hand on his shoulder. Somebody had shaken him awake. Without even looking up to see who it was, he grabbed his pistol from underneath his pillow and pointed it towards the forehead of the person looming above him. “Get the fuck away from me, Lilly-.” He stopped.
