Summary

Fundy swallowed, shutting his eyes for a second. It didn’t linger long enough to be much, but was too slow to be a blink. “This is gonna sound crazy— The thing is, I still want to marry him, Quackity. F— Fuck— Fuck, I still want to marry him. The intermittent reinforcement of affection and abuse creates a strong emotional bond that is difficult to break, even in the face of harm.

Defending heroes in court is a lucrative business; what with all the scandals that need covering up. Quackity is one of the best in the industry, even then he struggles to see how he could possibly defend his client in the newest scandal he's gone and gotten himself into. Morally speaking this is far from his worst case, but in terms of difficulty? He'd have more luck trying to get blood from a stone.

It felt… off. He wasn’t exactly sure why, but it felt like he was missing something.
He’d seen Tommy strolling in with a multitude of bruises along his arms and legs and never questioned it over the year and a half he’d known the kid. And yeah, he’d been concerned, but not in the way that he was feeling right now. He’d quite literally seen the causes of some of those injuries multiple times in his own class -- Tommy was kind of a clumsy kid. So why was he feeling off about this now?
(He’d felt this same sense of “off” before. He’d asked about the bruises before, not long after Tommy’s first day of freshman year. The kid said he was fine; Techno had no reason to doubt him.
Not then, at least.)
Techno sighed, pushing himself off of the bleachers and onto his feet. He clapped his hands three times, as per usual, to get his students’ attention.
“Alright, nerds! Get changed and run a few laps around the gym. Today will be a fairly chill day.”
He’ll figure this out later.

Quackity is a very good lawyer. Good lawyers win cases. Good lawyers win cases regardless of if the client is an asshole. Good lawyers win even if it makes them sick.
Usually, good lawyers don't buy a neglected draft horse and find themselves falling in love with a cowboy and an adrenaline junkie. He definitely shouldn't have gotten wrapped up in the stories he stumbled into by chance. But here he is, and he's completely fucking screwed.

The side doors of the courtroom open, and Tommy feels his blood turn to ice.
The man that is brought in is shackled, dressed in a bright orange jumpsuit, and flagged on either side by officers. Despite how different he looks from the last time Tommy saw him, he suddenly finds himself staring into those enraged green eyes, blood - Tommy’s blood - spattering the side of his face, a vicious grin stretching his cheeks.
Tommy digs his blunt fingernails into his palms in an attempt to stop the shaking.
