Mikoto had kind of hoped to wake up to a slightly calmer and more relaxed scene, maybe with some gentle nagging for always sleeping in, some nudging to wake him up that was more and more similar to cuddling. You know. The usual. That said, it’s not like the current state of things is unusual: Kusanagi being sassy and flustered and angry at him for no reason. Or for a reason that he could mercifully be made aware of, anyway.

“So, like,” Totsuka starts, standing between Mikoto and Izumo and trying not to inhale an excessive amount of smoke and thus limit the damage that the two of them keep inflicting on him daily by consuming cigarette after cigarette in his proximity. However, it has to be said, he’s the one who decided to join his friends outside the bar, intercepting the accomplice look they exchanged and the nod that followed. “You’ve been smoking since the very first day I’ve known you.”

“Wait, Munakata is— he— What?”
“Yeah, I know,” Izumo says and makes an uncomfortable little laugh. Mikoto is pretty much shocked. He feels irritation run through every inch of his body and the need to punch Munakata Reishi reaches record levels.
“Why would he do that?”
“Jeez Mikoto, thanks.”
“No I mean it’s…really weird,” Mikoto says and then, after a short silence, he ventures: “Do you want me to beat him up or—”
“No, Mikoto. Besides, I can do that myself.”
“Guess you can, yeah,” Mikoto says with a smirk that Izumo immediately shares. “But I mean, I don’t really know how else to deal with that.”
“I actually thought about something more subtle,” Kusanagi says, shrugging.

Summary
Mikoto likes the job. He gets to do basically anything that he feels like doing without having to face pompous and useless shit- like the law, for example. Well, they should, technically. They don’t, practically, because Kusanagi knows too many people and there is too much money being exchanged for him to be bothered by The Law. Thinking about it, Mikoto could very easily have it really bad if it weren’t for Kusanagi, a truth that applies to his life since he was, like, fifteen.
