Summary
Kaveh has a terminal illness that is eating away at his body. As much as he tries to hide it from his irritable roomate, behind the bickering, Alhaitham cares too much to not realize his roomate is suffering. As they navigate the illness, they grow closer, even in the face of the inevitable. Or is it inevitable?
A one shot fic that has a lot of hurting— but a lot of comfort too.

'Sometimes Kaveh thought he wanted to build houses because of times like this, when he was alone again. He wanted to build spaces where the very bricks were filled with warmth, and the glass sparkling like laughter. Where he wouldn't have to feel so incredibly small.
He fell back down on the sofa on his back, hair spreading around him.
But whatever happened today was ruined anyway. It was the same every year.'
Summary: Kaveh was prepared to spend the anniversary of his father's death alone, as he always did, trying to drink to forget his past. But when Alhaitham finally finds out about why this time is year is so hard for his roommate to bear, he decides it isn't fair for him to be alone. Meanwhile, Kaveh wonders why Alhaitham is suddenly treating him, as both of them begin to realise that perhaps it isn't only convenience that is keeping them together.

The afternoon hangs low in the first floor of the library. The dust motes dance, and the rich smell of preserved papyrus leads Lisa, as it always does, to inhale deeply.
With a gentle wave of her hand, Razor finds somewhere else to be that isn’t stuck between her and her Sumerian junior. Though reading is, for him, still a challenge, hiding is one of those things at which he naturally excels.
Hardly the same could be said for Kaveh, who looks like one of the first children caught out in a game of Windtrace.
