A sequel to "The World Tree".
Wandering the Underworld, Dante and Vergil stumble upon a familiar face. However, Hell has twisted this lost soul into something unrecognizable. It’s a race against the clock, as a servant of a long-dead king vies for the blood of Sparda and the brothers try to save the youngest of their family. Because, despite Nero being tucked away safely in the human realm, no one is safe. The spool has begun to unravel, a monster stirring, strangling twin souls with lost magic.
And while their trials may be different: Vergil, now forced to navigate the human world after over twenty years of being cast from it, and Dante learning how to survive in the Underworld after staying to save his newly discovered daughter; both the brothers must learn one important lesson…What it means to be a father.

Nero dropped the good humor, making a point to take a step back. Reluctance was painted over his confusion, evident in the halfhearted look he gave V. “Okay, all right... Should I even ask?”

In this mystery of character exploration, there is a well of dark history waiting to be unmasked between the kin of Sparda, one that Nero fears may be passed down through blood. It would be so much easier to parse through if he just grew up normal like any other kid... but alas, even a devil has his demons.
They have to act quickly, however, because this silent enemy has proven itself not only quick but ruthless. With this killer's sick fascination in child's blood, the unorthodox family of hybrids has to move fast before he begins to target someone a little closer to home.

Nero nodded in agreement, ignoring the look Kyrie shot him. “No, I get it.”
“Thank you!” Angie said and turned to glare at Kyle. “See? I told you he’d get it.”
“I don’t think-”
Whatever Kyle had been about to say was cut off by an overwhelming flare of demonic energy. Nero was on his feet before he realized he was moving, his chair falling to the ground with a clatter. It wasn’t his father or uncle, and Trish was sharper, and Lucia almost void-like in her energy, and this was none of that.
It was like, if someone had taken a molotov and lobbed it into a gas leak. Sudden, all encompassing, and so overwhelming that Nero had to take a second to process.

The first day passed slowly. Kyrie tried not to chew on her own nails as she sang her way through the day. She got the kids up. Took them to school. Went to work in the office. Plotted and planned. Went home at five to find the bed empty and the kids all messing around. Put them to bed. Stayed up another hour making herself sick with worry. Went to sleep.
She snuck out for her lunch break, though.

It wasn’t like Nero was unused to angelos. He was used to them. He was, in fact, sick of seeing them everywhere. It was just that this was Patty, someone who was completely uninvolved with all that bullshit. Agnus hadn’t touched her, Urizen hadn’t touched her, and they both had been after Gilver’s time, hadn’t they?
“Kinda freaky, right?” Patty’s voice was out of place in the armor. Too happy, too gentle. The armor melted back into the ring, clawed glove going last. “I try not to use all of it, that’s why it just pops in and out like that. But I can do it if I have to.”
Why did Gilver’s armor look like the angelos? Nero scrambled for a reason or explanation. Agnus had based his experiments on a preexisting design, hadn’t he?
If Agnus already had the Yamato, and Gilver was a strange mirror reverse version of Vergil, how big of a leap was it to assume. . .
“Nero?”
He would be back in Fortuna this time tomorrow. From there it was only a matter of research.
