Summary
In the aftermath of a messy divorce and amidst great pressure from his publishers, blunt and jaded food critic Vincent Moretti visits The Black Orlov, a so-called ‘family owned,’ hole-in-the-wall restaurant specializing in comfort food. While the restaurant has rave reviews, he is underwhelmed, and writes as such in his review. He doesn’t think much of it—just another overhyped restaurant in the heart of the city—and has more important things to worry about, with his eight-year-old daughter’s recent behavioural issues and his publishers breathing down his neck. However, the co-owner of the restaurant takes his review a lot more personally than he’d expected, and Vincent is suddenly thrust into a side of the culinary world he’d never even known existed.
Leo Caruso is a man who takes responsibility for his actions. Getting his best friend pregnant and dropping out of high school wasn’t in his life plans, but he thinks he’s done pretty well for himself and his family. But after a dead-faced, pretentious food critic gives the restaurant a horrible review, things start going wrong, things that are out of his control. He’s angry, hurt, and dead-set on showing that pompous bastard that he couldn’t possibly be more wrong.

Summary
Nothing could have been done to save him now, the rain didn’t feel as cold as he did now. With languid movements and every ounce of energy he had left, he pulled out the letter tucked safely in his pocket, pushing the letter to Leo’s chest with a silent last request. Vincent knew he didn’t deserve to ask Leo, but it wasn’t for him, Carol should have known earlier about his feelings, she should have known that Vincent thought of her and Julie. It took everything out of him to just brokenly whisper, “Please.” to his former friend and a small, “ I’m sorry.” unaware if he was crying or if it was the rain. Like before he never heard anything Leo said to him, all he knew was that the man wasn’t yelling, never letting Vincent go. His mouth turned upward once again, swaying his vision, if there was an afterlife he doubted that he would be able to see his brother again yet, Vincent held onto hope that Gary was there waiting for him.

Summary
Neither of them can tell if 'friend' is the right word anymore. They don't know if they can be seen as friends when Vincent accompanies Leo to his appointments; when they share hugs and eat dinner together; when Vincent asks Leo not to wait up for him because he'll be home late; or when Leo waits anyway just to greet him with an affectionate embrace because he loves to see Vincent's smile.
After all, they're 'just friends.'

For the last two years, Vincent and Leo have been happily living with their families. Vincent enjoys being at home with Julie, and Leo has been working hard as a mechanic. As winter draws close, Vincent and Carol have decided to remain home for Christmas, and they've invited the Caruso's to spend the holiday with them. This will be the first holiday they spend with Julie at home, and the first one Leo and Vincent will spend with each other. Spirits are high, and Vincent has something special to give to Leo this year. But how well can things go when a few unexpected guests decide to come by and stir up everything?
It's been years since Vincent has been in any real danger, but he thinks he'd rather face another armed gang with only a pistol than deal with this shit.

Summary
Vincent and Leo spend Christmas with family.
“A few years ago, before he and Leo got married, moments like this would’ve made VIncent feel like an outsider; like he was intruding somewhere he didn’t belong. But now, as Leo’s wedding band reflects the reds and greens of the Christmas lights from the houses around them, taking his hand while he tells Linda a story from back home feels natural; it feels right.”
Note: This takes place in the same universe as my fic In Our Bedroom After The War. You do not need to read that fic to understand this one, but there are a few things that might be helpful to know that I’ll put in the notes!

Summary
“We’ve been through some shit.”
Leo was looking at him with the same cautions, bemused look on his face. “Yeah, we have.”
Vincent took a too-big sip of his drink, but managed to hold back a wince at the burn.
“This isn’t where I thought I’d end up, you know. In bed with you, drinking shitty hotel coffee at the ‘ass crack of dawn.’”
“All of those things are your fault,” Leo pointed out. Vincent rolled his eyes.
“Maybe. But…”
A few years after their lives were turned upside down, Leo and Vincent are happy. Even though their families are back in California, together they're strong enough to get through. When they travel cross-country to attend a wedding, some important realizations are made, leading to some big decisions.(Title from 'In Our Bedroom After the War' by the artist Stars)

Summary
He can feel the sadness in his chest, because she’ll never understand how it feels to drown in the solace of a Mexican jungle. She’ll never know what it is to choke on guilt every time he forces down a sweet spoonful of the canned beans she thinks he loves. And she’ll never know how fiercely he wants to keep her from ever finding out just how much of his heart he left on a rooftop somewhere, where a single gunshot cracks like thunder.

Summary
Vincent had been coming to the café every weekday night at 10:45 for a while now, long enough that Leo recognizes him and knows his regular. A simple espresso with soy milk, sometimes with a muffin. He tried to give Vincent his number before, but Vincent didn't take up the offer, and Leo didn't push him; until today.

Summary
The prisoner's dilemma is a concept developed in game theory (as in mathematics, not video games). The idea is that two criminals are suspected of a crime: If both stay silent, they get a short sentence, if both confess, they get a medium sentence. If one confesses, and the other stays silent, the confessor goes free and the other gets the maximum sentence. The game assumes that the two have no way of communicating and that no other aspects influence their decisions.
For Vincent and Leo, nothing of this applies. A fix-it fic.
