“You're talking about the King's party?” Moominpappa finally exclaims.
“Was it a King's party?” The Joxter looks at him, he's always so quick to change up his expression.
“Yes, it was.” He says, rather matter-of-factly, because he knows it to be true.
“All I remember was that we danced.” The Joxter smiled fondly as he spoke. There was a casual air to his tone but Moominpappa felt anything but.
“And?”
“And what, Moominpappa?” The Joxter tilted his head to the side, curious eyes trained only on him. “Nothing came of it.”

Summary
Moominpappa had elected to not pay mind to the Joxter’s way of parenting, it was not how he'd personally do things, but he supposed he was not a Mumrik, was he? So he considered the idea that maybe the Joxter was doing things right in his own field.
That was before Snufkin got Moomintroll to nearly break his arm. Seeing his son with blood in his fur had seriously shaken him, and the Joxter, really, who is he to throw his child on them? He'd always been lazy but this was a bit much. Moominpappa knew now that he'd have to have a talk with him.
He does not detest the man. The Joxter may claim that he does, but he never said such a thing.

At the beginning of a father-son journey, Moominpappa and Moomintroll encounter a strange individual, only to find out that it’s one of Moominpappa’s old pals!
As they retell old tales, the older moomin remembers that the Joxter has a son. “Where is he now?” He asks.
Basically one of the numerous ways of how I’d imagine Snufkin getting abandoned as a kid.
ALSO, first chapter is literally a recreation of the first Moomin dream I ever had (A.K.A. Last night’s dream).

And uppon turning, Moomin locked eyes with the (second) most handsome creature he had ever seen.
The creature that stood before him was no taller than he and almost thought he was looking at his best friend. Only it wasn't. His dear Snufkin didn't sport a red hat, nor did his eyes remind him of ice. Which in turn made the young moomin feel a shiver crawl up his spine as the man's stare pierced right through him.

Her voice stayed in a whisper, hands going to rest on top of the man’s. She let out a sigh and gripped his paw tightly. “He always preferred being alone, and heaven knows he couldn’t get it here.”
“So he left!?” The man hissed out, throwing his arms into the air.
“And he’s seventeen Mymble. Seventeen! Why am I just now finding out about him? I know for a fact this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you in all these years. Why was he never mentioned!?”
In which THe Joxter finds out he has a son, and he discovers how to deal with news as such.

His hat lay crushed beneath his head, coal-black hair feathering out around his angular face, and his slender frame rose slowly around each breath. Here beneath the edge of twilight and one struggling flame, the Joxter seemed to him both familiar and strange. Like he could convince himself of either. Like he could somehow choose.
Newly recruited to the crew of the Oshun Oxtra, a younger Moominpappa is sent to retrieve the Joxter from a night of shore leave and finds him less than sober on the side of the road.

Summary
There is a party being held in Moominhouse.
Both the Joxter and Moomintroll wish to dance with their best friend, but neither Moominpapa nor Snufkin are in the mood. The mumrik, noticing the saddened look of the young troll, walks over to where he had been sat beside his oblivious spawn. He asks if he feels like ditching their boring friends and instead dance with one another.
Moomin, knowing that Snufkin won't be changing his mind any time soon, and curious to be able to spend some time with his papa's elusive friend, accepts.
That's how Moomin finds himself dancing a jig with The Joxter.

‘Here’! The Muddler hops happily over, along the tops of what appear to be variously sized globes. The last one spins as he goes, helping to land him right at the Joxter’s feet. He holds up what looks to Moomin like an immense crumple of white cloud. ‘Try this on!’
The Joxter flicks the brim of his hat, taking one stern look. ‘Ah. I will, sure,’ he says, in the exact cadence Moomin has come to know means jog all the way on.
