Chief Boden fears that 14-year-old Ernie is behind several recent dumpster fires. Cruz's attempt to get his little brother out of a gang backfires. On a lighter note, Sylvie asks Matt to come over and repair her window, while Severide receives a dinner invitation from Renée, a very attractive woman that he saved from a car accident.

Summary
At the site of a train accident, Gabby becomes deeply upset when she observes the dead body of a young victim. Unable to shake her emotional distress about the event, Matt makes an impromptu visit to her home. Brett and Shay save a 6-year-old girl whose mother is abusing her -- but their confrontation leads the woman to resort to dire actions. Meanwhile, Severide aggravates his injury while rescuing a heart attack victim and Shay sends Clarice, her married, pregnant ex-girlfriend, back home to her husband.

We grope around in zero visibility, hoping we grab onto an arm or a leg, and we pull someone to safety. Sometimes you can search through an entire room, come up empty. And you hear about the kid you missed under the bed . I don't care who you are. I don't care how many years you've had on the job. You think to yourself, "How did I miss it? How come I didn't reach just a few feet further?" No doubt, there are days you want to pick up your helmet, and you wanna Chuck it in the lake. Some days, you get to see things that no one gets to see. A wife grateful you dragged her husband to safety, a grown man dripping like a faucet 'cause you saved his son. And every once in a while, you get to see a baby take its first breath in the middle of a ten-car pileup with lights and sirens and a whole group of firemen standing around just clapping till it hurts. Casey is talking to Darden and Vargas as Herrmann whispers under his breath to Mouch.
‘He’s still a kid. How’d he make Lieutenant?’
Mouch shrugs, then nudges Herrmann as Casey walks over.
‘Hey there, Matt Casey.’
Casey holds out his hand, and both Herrmann and Mouch shake it as Casey continues.
‘I’ve heard a lot of great things about you two. Herrmann and… Darden told me to call you Mouch, is that right?’
Mouch nods, smiling as Casey grins at the two of them.
‘Well, I look forward to working with you both.’
Herrmann watches as he walks out of the briefing room talking to Darden. He waits until he is out of the room and then snorts and rolls his eyes.
‘I’ve heard a lot of good things about you two, jeez.’
Mouch frowns.
‘What’s wrong with that?’
Herrmann shakes his head.
‘He’s just sucking up to us.’
Mouch laughs.
‘Why would he do that, he’s the Lieutenant. I’m pretty sure we’re the ones who are supposed to suck up to him.’
