A veritable sea of those strange flowers is what greets Ivan at the cavern’s innermost end, and there, in the middle, is a shock of colour that steals his breath away from the startling unfamiliarity of it.

So, with nothing to do, he finally picks up the clean and untouched, white paperback book that’s seemed to have waited patiently for his attention to eventually swivel to it. Again, he looks over the cover’s illustration, before he opens the book for the first time since he first found it in the home office. He looks at the title page, then flips to the first page of story."
*Set prior to the events of The Stranger. John finds an old, fiction book while searching for old biology textbooks. Sickened by what he reads, he can neither forget its themes nor ignore its message. Dom thinks it's all a waste of time.

Summary
A living stone requires the touch of a biological, living creature in order to take its first physical form. But some living stones are birthed and mined as geodes, making the possibility of true birth difficult. The Fiorello Family Clinic receives a certain geode, on a certain day in October, and the clinic's doctor decides to attempt the dangerous process of exposing the geode without cracking it in two.
Luciano is the only human working at Fiorello Family Clinic, and he's invited to help birth this young geode. For the first time since he entered the Land of Gems, and for the first time aside from his husband's, Luciano finds himself cradling in his bare hands the heart of a living stone.
