Safe to say Jim is not having fun.

Having a good plan didn't ensure victory. Not at all.
Jim checked it himself. He planned to win the Arcane Order the first time he traveled back in time- and look, he had a great plan, okay? - but things didn't end as good as he thought they would turn out. After that, he went to the past again. And again. And again. And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't save his friends. His family.
When the hundredth time came, he was chosen again as the trollhunter, but getting the amulet again wasn't what he expected. The last time Merlin chose him things ended terribly for his family and friends. That's why he decided to stay away from them. He wasn't willing to put them in danger once more. Unfortunately for him, fate wasn't on his side.

Jim had a perfect plan.
He would use the chronosphere to travel back in time, to the day he found the amulet, to give it to his best friend. That way, Toby would be chosen as the troll hunter and if the battle with the Arcane Order went wrong, he would not die again.
Therefore, it was a surprise to him to see that he returned to the day when he fought with Strickler to get the location of the Killahead Bridge.
