Summary
Our heroine is a high-class whore who witnesses Mr. Merrick's moving speech about life and its beauties (s2e2), and decides to give him the gift of that 'secret intimacy of a woman.'
When Jedediah Shine shows up to murder Mr. Merrick, he is surprised to find a woman there.
"Who the devil are you?"
"I'm his whore."This is unapologetically a Jedediah Shine love story, but our heroine is a sex worker who is not quitting her job, so if multiple partners is a squick for you, this might not be the right story for you. I wanted to save Mr. Merrick's life and also let Jedediah be happy, this is what happened.

Summary
She has seen him watching her: the Dark Man. Having lived and thrived these many years on her own in London, Antigone Price knows enough to be wary. But she won't say she isn't curious, as well.
A chance connection with Albert Flight, a young detective constable, at first proves pleasant distraction from the Dark Man's presence, then a bane. Just as Tig starts to believe the Dark Man has gone on his way, he appears alongside Flight on her doorstep. Jedediah Shine used Albert to reach her, and he has no intention of letting her go.
Albert is kind, chivalrous. Jedediah is coarse and cruel. Even so, Tig has never been so tempted to surrender propriety and tumble into darkness as she is in Jedediah's grasp.

Summary
Originally this was a flashback scene intended for Across the Irish Sea. In an early chapter, I write that he lost his parents to Scarlet Fever while he was overseas. After Jedediah Shine returns to London from his ten-year post in Hong Kong he meets with Josephine, now married to another, at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. What she shows him in the cemetery leaves him speechless. Note: Josephine believed him dead at the time his parents pass away and Jedediah knows this. I want Josephine to be the compassionate of the two and what she reveals to him, I hope, illustrates that 1. She was mourning him and 2. she felt it was the right thing to do and 3. it was what she thinks he would have wanted.
