Jaskier knows what he sees. An unpacked suitcase. Unopened windows. Closed curtains. A dark room.
“You've been in here the whole day,” He comments.

Hidden away in the human realm.” Jaskier’s breath stuck in his throat. “It took me ages to find you again, dear heart. Only to find you trailing after a Witcher of all things. Barbaric beings.” The fae huffed, grip loosening and fingers resuming their idle stroking. “And when he wished you away, well.” Jaskier swallowed around the lump in his throat.
“You’re saying that I’m what?” He managed to scrape out past the hurt he felt at the mere mention of Geralt. “A changeling?”
“No, you’re not an exchanged child.” The fae tilted his chin up urging Jaskier to look at him. “You’re my child.”
“Fuck.”Or:
“If life could grant me one wish, it would be to take you off my hands.” Geralt says ‘wish’ instead of ‘blessing’. A difference so simple, so innocuous, It shouldn’t have mattered. Except that it did.

Summary
Jaskier has never personally agreed to the adage that one can always go home, but he has no other options. Geralt has left him alone on a mountain, off on his important, destiny-led quest, and Jaskier has to go somewhere. What's the point of a traveling bard if he has no one to write about?
His parents are, as ever, desperately hoping to get him married and settled down somewhere, and as much as he hates the prospect, the idea of something he could pretend was happiness was appealing, in a way. If not for Geralt showing up himself, he might not have any further questions about it.
