Summary
For the longest time, angels and demons have been at war, fighting on the side of order and chaos respectively.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru is the head guard of the angel heir, Makoto Naegi. All his life, he's protected him, something he equates with protecting order itself.
Nagito Komaeda is the demon heir, ignored by his family and treated less like the heir than his cousin is.
One day, he is given the order to go assassinate Makoto, only to get arrested for his troubles by the heir's personal guard.

Summary
More often than not, things don't turn out as planned. When Ishimaru Kiyotaka rescues Komaeda Nagito from being lynched, the latter's feelings are originally of unadulterated gratitude. From there, those pure feelings blossom into romantic affections, and soon Ishimaru feels that the other has become too close for comfort. However, every cloud has a silver lining; even if the situation is as ridiculous as this.
