Summary
This tale covers Souken and Ryuken's take on events in Bleach that were alluded to and/or happened in the Bleach manga. It takes place over the course of 2 volumes. Vol.1 (1004-1950) is Souken-centric and spans 6 chapters. Vol.2 (1966-2013) is Ryuken-centric and spans 27 chapters. We begin Vol.1 by following Souken at the end of the Gotei-Lichtreich war, learning how his views slowly changed as the defeated Lichtreich reforged itself into the Wandenreich, and why and how he decided to leave. We then transition to Vol.2 where we see Ryuken growing up, his relationships with Kanae and Masaki over the years, his fondness for Kanae and the reasons for his disillusionment with the Quincies. While this disillusionment led him to seek personal contentment by marrying Kanae, the disenchantment worsens after she dies. With the spectre of Kanae on his mind and his growing antipathy for Quincies, Ryuken plots revenge and tries to keep his son from experiencing the same disenchantment. Unfortunately, his son eventually gets caught up in another Shinigami-Quincy war. Ryuken thus finds himself struggling between his concurrent objectives of keeping his son safe, enacting his revenge and finding some peace.
