The chatter in the room immediately quieted as Yae Miko stopped just inside of the doorway. The small smile against her features was relatively impassive, though there was a flash of mischief in her eyes that Venti did not miss as she eyed the gathered students.
“So, is this our turnout for this year? Not bad, but I’ve seen better.”
“Thank goodness I’ve already filled one position for a stagehand, otherwise who knows if enough people would volunteer?” She stepped away from the door and gestured with her hand for whoever was behind her to enter.
A moment later, a scruffy-looking boy followed her into the room, hands buried in his black zip-up hoodie and looking very much like he wished he was anywhere else, judging by his refusal to look at anything but the floor.
“Everybody, this is Xiao. He will be joining us to help for the entire process of bringing this play to life.”
Venti felt a little bolt of panic in his chest.
Because that was the same Xiao who had just recently been caught fighting another student. The same Xiao who had a reputation for not giving a single shit about anyone or anything in school.

Xiao and Barbatos love each other, that is a fact. It's been that way for thousands of years, and if all goes well, it'll be that way for thousands to come. But how did it start? Well, with a meeting of course.
Accompanying Lord Morax to meet the other Archons was an honor given to the best of Rex Lapis's Adepti, so of course Xiao accepts when he's chosen. He might regret it once there, just slightly, but he just needs to keep it together until the meeting ends, then he can go home and forget everything about the event. That is what he would have done, had he not been followed by a god with big white wings and a bigger heart.
A warrior with the duty to slaughter and a gentle bard-god don't seem to have a lot in common, but somehow, they both end up being just what the other needs.
Or, how Xiao and Venti found each other, starting from the very beginning.

“And you’ve got sauce on your mouth, don't move.” Venti slightly bends down and reaches out a hand to wipe away the invisible ‘sauce’, Xiao constant in his seat, fully convinced of his disguised scheme. Playing right into his cards, the former swiftly averts his hand from Xiao’s lips to his nape, using it as leverage to lean in and go for an unexpected kiss.
With the widening of amber eyes, Xiao remains frozen, taken aback at such a bold move. Yet mere centimeters before their lips connect, he pushes Venti away and whips his head in the opposite direction. “What.. what are you doing?”
The taller stumbles upon the exerted force but regains his balance, Venti faces him and the look in his eyes render him speechless. “Why, Xiao, do you push me away?” Furrowed brows and a pained expression, words get stuck in Xiao's throat.

Though the commission secures his livelihood, their nerves (and feelings) are tested as Zhongli, a previous patron, is said to have accepted the invite to attend. With pressures and emotions running high, will Venti be able to compose themselves in front of Zhongli when the time comes?

Ever since he felt a strange elemental resonance come from deep within Stormterror’s Lair, he felt compelled to visit and check up on the area. Sure, he wasn’t bound by a contract as he was with Rex- Zhongli in Liyue, but he felt a certain tenderness and sense of duty to protect Mondstadt. Or maybe it was instead to protect a resident there…
Xiao goes to check out some weird winds and instead finds his normally happy bard in distress.

Not that she was wrong, but he was too proud to admit it out loud. She had told him many times that he was going to regret it if he didn't start studying for his finals in advance. And even though he knew she was right, as Lumine often was, he had denied her words and pretended he would be fine. But finals started in two weeks, he had hundreds of pages to go through, and he sure as hell wasn't fine.
