During a messy mission, secret agent Zhou Zishu keeps eighteen year old Han Ying, an innocent bystander, from getting caught in the crossfire, but he gets himself hurt in the process. Han Ying takes the time to patch him up and the rest, as they say, is history.
This work is part of my 七爷/天涯客/山河令 Spy AU, but stands just fine on its own. Just know that Zhou Zishu is a James Bond-esque secret agent, Jing Beiyuan is his snarky, tech-genius handler, and today is not going particularly well for them.
Written for Han Ying Fest (March 2023), an informal collection put together as a surprise for a most lovely friend and Han Ying connoisseur extraordinaire!

Zhou Zishu's had both the worst day of his life and the best. Good things: he permanently incapacitated the Prince of Jin, making it abundantly clear he was not the soulmate the Prince was looking for, his sect was resurrected and Wen Kexing in full Master of Ghost Valley mode went down on his knees before him swearing fealty as his shidi in front of the entire Jianghu. Bad things: apart from being riddled with nails, he's been tortured and now also has two big holes in his torso. Luckily, things seem to be looking up now.

Xie'er knows that his body belongs to Prince Jin just as his own body belongs to his father, but not for the first time; he wonders how he can be so happy with someone else controlling it.
Xie'er is happy that his father controls him because he knows that means he loves him, but he does wish that he loved the feeling of being controlled. He wishes that he didn't chafe at the feeling. He would be such a better son if he could get used to the leash that he feels roped around his neck.

There's a slight problem, though. Wen Kexing discovers a secret between the Emperor and his Personal Guard, Han Ying, and it creates a conflict within their already reluctant marriage.
