Summary
There are enough sounds—quiet ones, because she can tell he's trying to keep the noise down, compared to his usual—she can't make out that she has to know what the hell's going on. Her limbs feel like lead by now, but she manages to lift an edge of the compress and crack an eye barely open to get a look. Wolfwood has moved one of the room's chairs to a few feet away from her bedside. His heels are propped on the edge of the bed; he's got the paper resting in his lap.
He's staying.
With Vash and Milly out of town on a job, Meryl is forced to rely on the one person she never wants to when she falls ill with a migraine: Wolfwood.

"Get out of here!" Wolfwood spits the order, as Meryl helps Vash down from his shoulder and inside the truck's passenger seat.
"Wolfwood..." He hears Vash weakly whisper, but he pretends he doesn't, nor see the way the blonde weakly stretched a hand to reach him.
"Get in the fuckin truck, Wolfwood!" Meryl shouts, with her voice breaking in the process, before she cries out in pain when a bullet grazes her forearm.

It had been foolish of them to think people would simply forget about Lost July, it was obvious that much. What hadn't been as foreseesble had been the fact the popular hate towards Vash the Stampede had rubbed off on his comrades...

“It’s dark now. Meryl and Vash push through the nightly cool with sand glued to the dried sweat and blood on their skin. The reporter is scratched up and covered in bruises but she’s overall in decent condition compared to her partner.
Vash is limping, leaning onto the woman for support, blood is still flowing out of his side, and fatigue disturbs any of his attempts at thought. Their bodies are weak from the last attack on Vash but they do not give in to it. Meryl sees a town, pulling the other in its direction.”

When she looked up at Vash's face the concern was still there, as she'd anticipated. Role reversal was a hell of a thing. "Don't be silly," he chided, soft enough her heart cracked a little. "Can't I help?"
"I wouldn't want you to…"
"But there has to be some way to," he interrupted, smoothly as anything. "A little something I can do? I'd rather not sit here thinking I did nothing when you don't feel well."
Vash gives Meryl a hand (and a hot water bottle) when her period leaves her dealing with discomfort.

TRIGUN 98 SPOILERS IN THIS DESC. AND STORY:
Instead of dying (ep 23. paradise), Wolfwood miraculously survives, but is extremely hurt and falls into a coma. Vash and the girls tend to his wounds briefly, before Vash leaves the three of them behind to face the rest of the gunmen. (The results are equally catastrophic as they are in canon) Together, the four of them try their best to take care of each other, and nurse Wolfwood back to health. Can they do it, or will Knives use Wolfwood as his final pawn against Vash?
(and yes the title is from a mother mother song don’t come after me I’m very bad at naming things T-T)

Summary
Hanahaki is common with grief. Love with no place to go. Sounds poetic. Sounds pretty. It also looks pretty, the flowers are usually fresh and smell beautiful.
It doesn't feel pretty or beautiful. The thorns are scratching at her throat. She can feel them in her lungs as they're digging their way out. Meryl wants to stick her finger in her throat, grab and pull them, but when she tries she only finds the gag reflex.
For a while, it must be grief. Wolfwood said so. It's just Roberto, it's just July, it's something that's dead and can't affect her anymore. She needs to cry it out and feel better. She tells herself she work on herself and survive it - does she really even want to?
But there comes that first flower, that first gods damned flower and she knows.
Vash calls them geraniums -
