“We might as well start,” Nikkari said. “The official name of this game is Hyakkumonogatari Kaidankai - a Gathering of a Hundred Strange Tales. As the name suggests, the purpose is to gather and share stories. Of course, a hundred stories is terribly cumbersome, and there’s always the risk of repeat stories, which would simply be gauche… As a result, I’ve decided on a modified game. Jyumonogatari - Ten Tales. Traditionally it was played by a single samurai in front of a mirror, testing his own courage as he blew out each candle, sending him further into the dark… For us, we shall combine the two, and each tell a single story, before blowing out a candle. As we are nine, and I was the one to propose it, I shall take it upon myself to fill the gaps, instead of pushing the burden on any one of you.”
Honebami frowned. “You just wanted to tell an extra story, didn’t you?"
“... Perhaps.” Nikkari hid his smile with his sleeve, rather enjoying the attention, and used it as a pause to gather his words and let the tension build. “Now…”
