Before he becomes a dedicated researcher at Viktor Chondria University, and long after the traumatic summer of 2010, Okabe follows Kurisu overseas to the United States, deciding to take college seriously so that he can study with other brilliant minds and preserve the sacred worldline.
He spends his time living as roommates in California, researching at one of Viktor Chondria's satellite campuses where Kurisu is employed. Having left both joyous and harrowing memories behind, he works to try to grow bigger than his overwhelming post-traumatic stress; measure up to Kurisu's brilliance with the dream of proposing to her; and host an old neighbor he used to tutor (Subaru Natsuki) - sent over for the summer by his parents in hopes he'll catch Okabe's "contagion of academic passion."
This work is planned as a limited series with a couple chapters.
I'm writing this out of my own passion for the fandom, but also as practice for my current original story, PARAGATE.

Okabe Rintarou, the Commander of Valkyries, one of the pioneers of Time Travel technology and now the first person to travel back in time, well at least in this timeline, has spent countless nights wailing with grief and many Winters spent writhing in agony. But no matter what trials he faced, Kurisu's presence in both body and later spirit guided him every step of the way. He always had her radiant brilliance in both mind, heart and soul to reassure him.

Rintaro after countless loops and trials, all ending in utter failure, was at his breaking point.
Even after realizing his romantic feelings for Mayuri, he can't pull himself to sacrifice Kurisu. Rintaro refuses to believe that this is the only option, after sacrificing so much of his friend's happiness for his own selfishness, Rintaro desperately wants to believe there is a perfect world out there where everyone is happy.
Then he realized the devil's hand that was always in front of him.
SERN, to join SERN means to gain the resources needed to find a way to save everyone, to find a way where Mayuri and Kurisu live.
Even if it means putting Kurisu and Daru to work years and being nothing but slaves to SERN, even if it means earning the hatred of everyone he knows and having to experience the death of Mayuri and never to see her after...
Rintaro convinces himself that all of this will matter, and that he will succeed no matter what.
