Summary
It’s more of a question for himself than for the students, he realizes. Underneath all of the studying, AP classes, and playing lacrosse year round with zero breaks, Alex notices that he never even had a chance to try and discover himself in high school, and certainly not in college like everybody said he would. His heart drops to the floor once he realizes that he doesn’t have a clue who his high school self actually was when you strip away the perfect grades or the title of the perfect student.
Alex isn’t sure he’ll ever have the chance to rest in his life, and he knows that’s his fault, too.

At 25, Alex thought his life was going to be a lot different. He was supposed to be graduating from law school and starting his career in politics, but instead he finds himself at his old high school, preparing to teach teenagers.
What happens when the English teacher and he get into a riff? And the PTA tries to fight him on teaching an LGBT history course?
Alex may have thought that he could only make a difference in politics, but he certainly can make some history as a teacher as well.
