Summary
Ichigo Kurosaki, an Omega and single father, leads a quiet life with his 6-year-old son, Kazui, in a small village. After separating from Inoue, Ichigo devotes himself to raising Kazui while working at a coffee shop, with his father helping out. Their routine is disrupted when a wealthy new neighbor, Aizen Sosuke, moves in. Though Aizen’s Alpha presence makes Ichigo cautious, Kazui quickly warms up to him, and Aizen’s kind demeanor begins to win Ichigo over.
Unbeknownst to Ichigo, Aizen is living a double life. When Aizen learns that one of his enemies might target Ichigo and Kazui, he must decide whether to protect them or risk exposing them to his dangerous world.

It's not voiced out loud for the world to hear but Ichigo knows what lies underneath the suggestion either way.

And Ichigo nods his thanks, watching the ash of his cigarette hit the ground under his feet.
What is left of Kurosaki Ichigo is but a shell that can't keep from falling apart at its seams.
Ichigo doesn't have it in himself to tell Miyamura-san just that.

“There’s this thing called minding your own business. Have you ever tried that for a day in your life?” Ichigo muttered despite knowing they were only people in the house. It didn’t matter if he spoke louder. There was no one in the house to hear. Ichigo had purposely chosen a time where the parents were away. Ichigo didn’t mind committing a crime in order to bring some comfort to a pulse. That didn’t mean he was going to go about it in a stupid manner.
If he was going to steal that stuffed animal then he was going to do it without getting caught. He really didn’t need to deal with police on-top of everything else going on.
Shinji lips lifted upward. He grinned. His teeth were all white. None were chipped. Even though Ichigo couldn’t see his tongue right now he knew Shinji had a tongue pricing. “But your business is entertaining.”
Was that what he was? Entertainment for the Vizards.
As soon as he thought that he knew better.
The Vizards had left him like everyone else but he wasn’t entertainment for them. Shinji wouldn’t have sought him out to be trained on controlling his Hollow if that was a case.
Ichigo was jolted out of his thoughts by Shinji’s voice. “What are you thinking?”

Kon hadn’t survived the battle in the fake Karakura town. Ichigo had never found out who had killed the Mod Soul. The thing was it wasn’t just Aizen’s side that were suspects. There was a chance that someone from Soul Society had killed the Mod Soul. After all, it Soul Society who had exterminated the Mod Souls despite having been the ones to create them.
“Lower your voice,” Ichigo told Kon instead of lecturing him about what he was ranting about. “You could wake Karin or Yuzu.”
“How can I be quiet? If you keep me locked up, I’ll sue you for cruelty to stuffed animals,” Kon said, continuing to yell. Ichigo’s eyes fell back into the Substitute Shinigami Badge. He knew without ever asking that would be no laws protecting Mod Souls from cruelty.
They had been invented as a weapon for Shinigami to use against Hollows and the moment Soul Society didn’t go through with their plans of having Mod Souls occupy human corpses they had decided to get rid of the Mod Souls.
“I’ll take everything you’ve got!”
(In another life there was a chance Ichigo would have seen a Mod Soul using the corpse of his mother instead of her corpse being left alone.)
Ichigo’s head fell back.

“Look.“ Shinji said as seconds dragged on. “I told you I’ll ride you until you join us. I wasn’t lying.” He paused before grinning. His teeth were white. None of them chipped. “I know know we’re not close but I’m here to help. I know I can say whatever to try and earn that trust but words won’t mean anything. We barely each other after all. So how do you want me to prove I’m here to help you?”
Ichigo stared. Shinji’s words had drained the anger from him. It shouldn’t have left him so shocked. It shouldn’t have left him frozen there. Yet it did.
Something in Ichigo ached. (The aching reminded Ichigo of a bruise - though it has been quick to go away - he had once got from one of father’s punches not be blocked.)
He was still staring at Shinji. Seconds were dragging on. He should say something. He already should have said something.
Eventually, Ichigo shook his head. Shinji dropped the grin, no longer showing his teeth.
“Come on,” Shinji said, his tone coaxing. “Don’t play coy. It doesn’t suit you.”
The Vizard took a step closer. Ichigo didn’t take a step back. He wasn’t afraid of the older shinigami.
