Himeko and Kafka had actually started looking into various ways to have a child together almost 2 years ago, and after heavily considering various options, everything from IVF to a sperm donor, they eventually settled on adoption, deciding it would be the best option for starting their family together.
And now, after 11 long months of waiting, and going through the whole process of contacting an agency, completing a home study, submitting the application, waiting to be selected, and finally, finally meeting her, they were driving to the adoption center for the last time.

Summary
The era of Trailblazing has come to an end. The two masterminds of the Astral Express—Welt and Himeko—have reluctantly concluded that continuing the journey is no longer feasible. Countless intergalactic criminals are after them, and by constantly traveling, they’re only putting themselves in greater danger.
Now, the crew of the Astral Express has gone their separate ways: March 7th is chasing the elusive Memokeepers, Dan Heng is caught up in the political turmoil of the Luofu, and Welt wanders the galaxy alone. As for Himeko, she has taken in a child the crew discovered during their last venture. With golden eyes that glimmer like a thousand shooting stars, Himeko names her Stelle.
As expected, raising a child proves to be as messy as it gets. Himeko struggles to settle down, realizing she can no longer escape her past.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), Stelle was an exception. Her first two system hours after gaining consciousness involved smacking lots of enemies with a baseball bat; something she found herself enjoying immensely.

“Then we better get started as soon as possible,” Stelle grinned, squeezing their hands together tightly
As long as she could remember, Firefly had always been dealt the short hand. From being abandoned by her parents as an infant, to becoming a lab experiment for a corrupt organization, it felt as if the world were playing a cruel prank on her. Just when she finally feels things start to settle, doctors inform her that she has a little over a decade left to live.
In an attempt to seize control of some semblance of her life, a young Firefly tries to complete her bucket list in a race against the clock before the inevitable day arrives. Little does she know that her best friend will be standing with her, every step of the way as she attempts to come to terms with her own mortality.

If I try to ask about it, or look into it myself, I’m met with concern about why, and meaningless platitudes that I shouldn’t let it define who I am. Even against our foes, who openly mention the Stellaron, who plan to use it in their schemes, there is no acknowledgement. No recognition. As if the very idea of talking about it is somehow going to hurt me.
“I was naive when I first woke up, and there wasn’t anything I could do about that. But I don’t want to be naive anymore. I want to understand what’s happening, what I am, how to protect myself. If the Astral Express is determined to hide that information from me, then I’ll find it on my own.” She looked to Kafka, watching her with an unreadable expression. “Is that so wrong, to want answers? Would you have gone along with it?”
Before Kafka can answer, from the back of the room, a new voice spoke up. “No. She wouldn’t.”
