“So, Henry,” June says after a while, in a tone that gives Alex the impression that he’s about to be a lot less happy about how well they get along, “what exactly do you see in this knucklehead?” Alex groans silently and throws a couple pieces of popcorn at her in protest. She eats one and throws the other back, clipping him on the nose with it and narrowly missing Henry.
“Oh, erm…” Alex feels Henry tilt his head to look at him, so he tips his head back to meet his gaze, offering him his goofiest grin. He’s rewarded with Henry’s soft laughter in his ear and the arm around his waist squeezing him closer. “I dunno, really,” Henry continues, his tone light and teasing. “The champagne must’ve gone to my head. Momentary lapse in judgment.”
“Hey!” Alex grumbles, elbowing Henry in the ribs while June howls with laughter.
OR: Alex and Henry get to wake up in each other's arms on New Year's Day and spend the morning basking in the afterglow
