Summary
It took Magnus 15 years to pluck up the courage to open the letters. He thought he was ready, but he preferred to lie to himself, to show his best side in case Alexander was watching him from somewhere.
Two letters.
The first was addressed to him, and he had cried his eyes out. But nothing was more devastating than the second. Alexander had written a myriad of instructions on how to love him.
It took Magnus 50 years to love again, nothing as strong as what he'd experienced with Alexander, but enough to start healing, it didn't work. All his lovers eventually left without him knowing why, until the tenth explained that there, on one of the leather sofas, was the figure of a young man judging his every move with Magnus.
It took Magnus 150 years to stop talking into thin air, simply because he now knew that Alexander was here.
It took Magnus 200 years to sink back into the depths of longing and melancholy when his latest conquest never spoke to him about the man in the armchair.
Alexander had disappeared.
It took Magnus 300 years to take another deep breath when Tessa introduced him to Nathanaël Blackthorn, a young Unseelie in his hundreds with the exact same blue eyes as Alexander.

Suddenly everything that happened flowed Alec’s mind. Regular patrol, irregular magic activity, Iris Rouse, a child in a summoning circle, demon about to attack, rushing to them, praying to the Angel to not be too late, being hit with the whole force of a demon power.
“Jace…”
That’s alright. That doesn’t matter. Alec was fine. He hoped the child was as well.
“I’m sorry for not saying it before, how much you mean to me. I wish you could hear me.”
“What do you mean?”
Finally Alec came to stand next to Jace, looking at his parabatai with concern. And then there was something even more concerning.
There was someone on the bed.
There was him on the bed.

When a worthless clear glass vase tipped from its spot on the bookshelf and shattered on the ground Magnus had been startled. He wondered if he had done it. He simply brushed it off as nothing and continued with his day.
