ON INDEFINITE HIATUS- I AM SO SORRY
Ophelia turned slowly back to Horatio and watched his face for an explanation. The analog clock on the wall maliciously slowed down as he met her gaze. The second hand ticked- hours passed- the second hand ticked again. Dawn ought to have broken by the time a knock sounded at the door.
After the tragic events at the Danish court, Horatio and Ophelia move into a cottage in the woods with the hopes of living out the rest of their lives in relative obscurity. Elsinore’s staff isn't going to make that easy.
Or: A big, dark Hamlet AU with some cozy cottagecore frosting on top. Expect political intrigue, decade-spanning flashbacks, and the slow realization that Hamlet was a horrible person. -

The Viscount's Men present... Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by ERNest for threegee

Summary
Every year at Aubrey Hall, the Bridgerton siblings convene on Boxing Day to mount a Shakespeare play under their acting company, The Viscount’s Men. Every year Eloise gets mad that they wouldn’t choose a gender neutral name, and every year she’s shouted down because it’s a historical reference to Shakespeare’s own troupe, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men. The argument she’s bound to lose is as much of a tradition as the play itself. The audience has always been exclusively their parents and the Aubrey Hall servants, and maybe Lady Danbury if she's visiting for Christmas. In 1814, the play they choose is Hamlet.

Summary
Hamlet was everything that Horatio wasn’t. Horatio was everything that Hamlet wasn’t. That’s why they had gotten along so well when they were younger– they fit together like pieces in a puzzle, covering one another’s blind spots through life.
Then Hamlet met Ophelia, and Horatio was put on the sidelines. It didn’t bother him much at the time; he needed to focus on his studies at Wittenberg, anyway. He didn’t particularly care for the company of women in the first place. Still, he couldn’t deny that Hamlet had been on his mind no matter how much he wished to push the thoughts away. It wasn’t that the two had grown distant– no, they were still close friends, thick as thieves– they just had other things to prioritize. Not to mention that Hamlet was the prince of Denmark.
Horatio had never been as important to Denmark as Hamlet was.
Horatio had never been as important to Hamlet as Hamlet was to Horatio.
