Percival Graves is a police officer who came to the orphanage around Christmas on a charity visit from the welfare service to give gifts to the children. Acquainted with the young man, he is imbued with sympathy for him and realizes that he does not belong at all in the orphanage, and Graves has a desire to take Credence with him in order to give a new life.
