Based on "reckless driving" by Lizzy McAlpine, but I make the extended metaphor a little more literal.

Summary
His eyes lingered on the card Christopher made for him after the truck bombing.
And oh. Of course.
That’s what it was about. Christopher is what it’s always been about.
Buck couldn’t be mad at Eddie for that. He would do the exact same thing if he had to.
So, he was going to suck it up and be supportive of Eddie’s decision... from a distance. If he stepped back now, it wouldn’t hurt as bad when Eddie left for real.
At least, that’s what he kept telling himself as he tried to fall asleep that night.
Or: Buck spirals after Eddie tells him he’s moving to Texas

Summary
He doesn't want to lose his job either, but this is what’s fair. He swore to protect people, to have his teammates' backs, and that’s not what he did back then. No matter how much of an asshole Gerrard is (or was), his actions were unacceptable and he is tired of everyone pretending he is a hero when he is clearly not.
Buck sat down at the café table, the clatter of dishes and murmur of conversation around him dull compared to the thudding in his chest. Across from him, Detective Petrova and Officer Williams took their seats. He inhaled deeply, bracing himself for the questions he’d been waiting for—the ones about his boss, the rescue, everything.
But the first question threw him completely off balance.
“So, Buck,” Detective Petrova started, glancing at her notepad before meeting his eyes. “What can you tell us about Doctor Wells?”//OR// I brought up that dead body from the grave because I still can't believe how they brushed it off

Summary
The heavy feeling that settled in Buck’s chest when Eddie said he was thinking of moving to El Paso–that he was actively looking at houses to buy–only grew as time went on. He hated it, hated this ugly, dark selfishness festering inside him like an infectious disease. He knew that Eddie wanted to–needed to–fix his relationship with Chris more than anything and if Chris wasn’t going to come home to LA, the only other option was for Eddie to go to Texas.
But he didn’t have to move.
He didn’t have to leave Buck forever.
or the 8x08 coda where eddie is leaving and buck doesn't want to confront what that means for him so he resorts to less than stellar coping mechanisms because if even eddie can leave him, then what's the point of anything anymore?

Summary
St. Anthony’s was his last chance, and Evan knew that. He had been kicked out of five schools in the past six years, and after his sophomore year ended with a meeting between his parents and his last headmaster that could be summarized with: “we’re not kicking him out, but just know that Evan is not welcome back in September.” His parents wanted to send him to military school.
Evan knew he couldn’t survive military school, that would be his last drop, the one that finally shattered the vase. He couldn’t be the type of person that would be able to put himself back together once they broke him down.
This had to work.
. . .
Buck is the new kid in an El Paso boarding school, trying his best to stay out of trouble. Eddie is a rockstar (in the world of high school popularity) he's captain to the football team, he's dating the most popular girl in school, and looking at a full ride sports scholarship in the fall. He should feel like he won at life, which is why he doesn't understand why the only time he feels alive is when he catches a glimpse of the new guy on the running team.
Or in simpler terms: Buddie high-school AU!

When he wasn’t with Eddie, he felt like his head was ready to spin off. Every inch of his body ached, and he only thought EddieEddieEddie.
Or;

Summary
“Stop.” Buck said quietly, and Bobby, weirdly enough, stopped trying to explain.
“Buck?” Athena said gently, looking at him a little worriedly.
“Bobby, what are you doing?” Buck asked carefully.
“I’m doing what’s best for you.” Bobby stated firmly, his eyes pleading with Buck for him to understand. Except Buck didn’t understand.
“No, you aren’t.” Buck said sadly. “Bobby, you only just got off of suspension when I was released from the hospital, months ago. Suspension for not telling the truth to the brass. We both know I’ve been cleared by four separate medical doctors, as well as three separate psychologists. I recertified. I set records when I recertified. What are you telling anyone for them to believe your word over other professionals?”

Summary
“Who do you think you are," Evan growls at him, turning in his seat towards Tommy. He’s less than coordinated due to the alcohol consumption, but he’s also refusing to let that keep him from going off. “You have no right-..”
“How many fucking times do I have to have Bailey call me and tell me that you’re so shitfaced you can’t stand up properly enough to call for an Uber,” Tommy argues back at him as they pull out onto the road. He dares a glare over at Evan, making it clear that he's less than happy about the predicament too.
“So fucking call Eddie,” Evan bites back. “Last I checked, I’m not your problem anymore. In fact, you didn’t want me to be your problem.”

Summary
“He left,” Buck whispered, staring at the floor. “I… I tried, you know? I thought maybe this time—” He stopped, his voice breaking. “But he said this was just… going to be another moment in our relationship, just one in a long line of them.”
Eddie placed a steadying hand on Buck’s shoulder. “You know he wasn’t trying to hurt you,” he said softly, looking at his friend with deep understanding.
Buck nodded, his voice barely audible. “I know. And that’s what hurts most, Eddie. I just… I don’t know why I can’t get it right.”
