Summary
“I was just about to call you,” he starts, voice quiet. “Maddie’s in the living room. She’s been crying on and off for an hour.” Buck falters, tripping over his feet and narrowly avoiding crashing into Chimney. An hour… how many people did his dad call between him and Maddie? How far down on the list was he? He wants to be angry about it, that his mom died and it seems like he was one of the last people his dad called, but he’s just met with the same ever present pain he’s come to associate with his parents. It shouldn’t still hurt, it shouldn’t come as anything close to a surprise, but…
~
Or when Margaret Buckley dies, Buck and Maddie head back to Hershey with Chimney and Eddie to help with the funeral. Featuring: complicated relationships with grief, lots of hurt and lots of comfort, and so so much pining.

Summary
Evan knows the saying about a tree that falls all alone in a forest.
At twenty-four, he wonders if there is an equivalent maxim about young men in foreign countries with no one waiting for them to come home.

Summary
Evan Buckley had never been anyone's first choice. He learned early on in life that to be loved he had to be useful, and he never really got out of that habit. And then came along Eddie Diaz, with his smile and his son and his trust and his Friday movie nights, and Buck began to realize that maybe he didn't have to be of service to deserve love.
Or maybe not.AKA an angsty, Buck-central retelling of canon, with some Buddie in the mix.

Summary
Buck is long used to nightmares by now. He is so often woken up with the taste of Eddie’s blood in his mouth, with gasping lungs as he screams for Christopher, with Chimney bleeding out in front of him and his sister missing. He even dreams of his childhood: of falling from trees, of broken bones, of sobbing alone in his room, confused and hurt. Buck is used to nightmares. Today was different.

Summary
Evan Buckley & Eddie Diaz grew up craving attention and validation from their parents.
It took five years for Buck Buckley to finally find a home. A place he finally felt comfortable enough in his own skin.
It took seven years for Eddie Diaz to finally feel like he could breathe.
Both boys, though on opposite sides of the country, both longed for the same thing and found it within the other.

Summary
Evan watches them run into the house, voices raising but no anger in them. Such an alien concept for him, if he’s honest. Anytime his parents raise their voice with him, it’s always with a hint of disappointment and a hint of anger. He’s yet to experience the “I’m so worried i yell at you” type of scream.

Summary
Sometimes Buck would sit and look at the few pictures of his childhood that Maddie managed to scrounge up. He would catch himself looking at this little girl’s face, this small person with such a big personality who is still a part of every decision he makes. He used to mourn her, before he realized that she was all around him, protecting him the way she should have been protected. Buck could not help but think, as he looked through the meager stack of photos, that she deserved better. He deserves better.
or, the Buckley parents pull a surprise visit after years of not seeing Buck, they proceed to have stupid opinions on his identity, and Buck decides he deserves better (with a side of established buddie fluff, and a buck who is going to be okay moment, as a treat)

Summary
“I’ll know more soon. I just, I have to talk to Chris, I have to..” He trailed, biting back the quiver in his bottom lip. With every person, and every word he spoke, just made it all the more real. It felt like little by little he was drowning, sinking deeper and deeper into Atlantis, a world where Eddie Diaz didn’t exist in it anymore.

or, eddie gets shot, and buck realizes his heart is lying on that operating table.

Summary
His parents are standing there next to him, a content smile on their face as they observe the little scene playing out in front of them. Just like Buck, they look at Maddie and Chimney with a warm smile, heart probably full with joy as they introduce their daughter Jee to her brand new little brother.
They flew all the way from Hershey to be here with them, and while Buck is happy for his sister, there’s currently this little nagging feeling in the back of his head, this immature, childish voice reminding him of all of the times they could have - or should’ve - flew in for him and failed to do so.
Since having them back into his life, Buck would like to say that his relationship with his parents has improved. Buck would kill to say his family is normal, ordinary, fucking mundane at this point.
But that would be a big, fat, gigantic lie.
OR : buck confronts his parents about his childhood, then goes home with his boyfriend
