Sam Allen has never been a fan of her birthdays, because something always seemed to go wrong, whether bullies ruining the party or her hallucinations of strange creatures messing with her mind. But when her twelfth birthday leads to the realization that her hallucinations are real, Sam is whisked away to discover a part of herself that she never knew existed, and to obtain an unstable ancient relic that has been causing natural disasters for nearly a year. A relic apparently only Sam can try to get back in a way that doesn't leave anyone hurt.
Sam and her newfound friends only have a week to find the relic before it becomes too unstable and unleashes its destructive power on the world. But the relic comes with a caveat: it only bends to those who are worthy to wield it. Anyone unworthy causes the sword to explode, its power unleashing disasters upon the world, and the bad news is people have been trying to claim it anyway despite the disasters it brings. Fighting those who wish for the chaos, and beings from myths around the world and beyond, Sam will have to discover if she's the right one for the job, or if she'll be the one to cause the end of the world as she knows it.
