Summary
Jon snaps to awareness. His breath feels as if it’s being punched out of him and when he drags air back into his lungs it is like his throat, the soft flesh of it, is having razor barbed wire tugged through it. He clutches at the shirt over his chest, pulling at the worn cotton until the collar cuts into his skin by his neck and rubs it raw.
”Jon?” Martin’s voice comes from next to him. ”Are you alright?”
A nightmare, and a difficult conversation at the end of humanity.

Summary
Jon never thought much about the Magnus Institute. At least, not before Mr. Spider. Giving a statement won't do anything, not really, but it'll be nice just to get it off his chest.
(Yes Jon, everything will be just fine I'm sure)or
The Institute has a subsection of the Archives that deals with and takes statements from kids. After his encounter with A Guest For Mr. Spider, Jon decides to go and give his statement. This goes very well.

You find a book whilst cleaning the children's section at your job at the library.
I mean, sure, the way the shiny holographic eyes catch the light and seem to blink at you is extremely creepy.
But it's just a children's book.
Nothing to be afraid of.
So why are your hands shaking? And why are you opening the book to turn to the first page, where Mr Archivist has been waiting for you...

Summary
The Mother of Puppets can twitch the strings, but it's far from omniscient. A rat-gnawed wire, a system failure, a pair of people who prefer to wait to leave (to avoid crowds, to work late, doesn't matter) and the whole Plan gets thrown into chaos without the Web's knowledge.
Jon and Gerry don't know about this, though. They're just focused on lasting a whole night stuck in a lift with a stranger without killing each other - or getting killed. (Whose bright idea was it to carry Leitners around the Institute, anyway?) -
