“No,” Kaveh says, shaking his head. “Go sit, Alhaitham. I’ll do it.”
“You don’t have to,” Alhaitham argues, not even sure why he’s doing it. Except maybe because it’s his favourite mug. Maybe because it’s the first one Kaveh got for him years ago, just a few weeks after he’d moved in, awkwardly leaving the gift for Alhaitham on the table with the most shakily handwritten note that it was for him—the note still lives in his little collection of treasured things.
But his favourite mug is broken now. Shattered in pieces on the floor, and Alhaitham is violently wrenched back into the past, to a situation just like this where he took something into his own hands and pressed until it broke.
