At the same time, due to the loss of Maglor, Feanor does not rush into a suicidal attack, and becomes the High King of the Noldor.

She had always given him more faith, more courage, than any weapon or strategy, and this time was no different. Concentrating on the warmth of her hand, the strength of her presence, he looked over his shoulder.
King Thingol stood at the end of the corridor. His tall frame was cast in the shadow of a massive tree trunk, so Beren could not make out his face, but his lavender eyes gleamed faintly regardless of the dim light.
“May I speak with you?”

So while all the family is busy preparing for the new baby"s arrival, it falls upon the king himself to put his daughter to bed- his daughter who is adamant that she is not tired at all.

On her right forefinger is Barahir’s ring, with its silver serpents twisting together, surrounded by golden flowers. Their emerald eyes wink back at her in the moonlight.
Beril’s lip quivers as tears spill down her dirty cheeks. She lifts her hand and kisses the ring. She imagines the devouring serpent is her father, and the flower-crowned serpent is her mother. This is all she has left of them, now.***
From Beril"s arrival in Doriath, and her time spent with the Elven prince, to her confrontation with King Thingol and his Quest.

This story began as an expression of my love for the Children of the Valar concept and for the Ainur in general. I was also inspired by various conversations with my friends as we pondered all sorts of Silmarillion AUs and scenarios! This will probably be more about the Ainur of Arda instead of the Elves. Enjoy!
