    Summary

Disclaimer. I am still working on this, however the genie is out of the bottle, so I am posting what I have. I apologize that this is such a very long story. It took on a life of it's own. And this might not suit many readers.
A story set in Cornwall in the year 2000. The main characters are included. Some as they were portrayed in the books and TV series, some modified.
This is an AU for the story of Ross Poldark and Demelza Carne.
It eventually become explicit. It is long. It's nothing more than my take on what if Demelza met Ross in the modern world? How might that work out. So it doesn't adhere exactly to the time line and story from the books or series.
They meet under very different circumstances and this is the story as it plays out in that time and place.

    War is Hell

Ross and Dem become separated by circumstance in the frantic need to leave France under the Vichy government and threat of Nazi occupation. Their love is true but, when it comes down to the wire, they both leave Europe by accepting marriages of convenience. Ross weds Elizabeth Chynoweth, a rich socialite and patron of the arts who brings him to safety in New York City. Dem weds Hugh Armitage, a diplomat who can assure safe passage from France to Mexico. When a dinner hosted by The Riveras at Casa Azul inadvertently brings the two couples together, three years later, the guilt, bitterness and jealousy, feelings of gratitude and disloyalty in each configuration of relationship are the potent emotions that swirl around them all in this difficult reunion.

    Summary

After Ross receives the letter from Elizabeth informing him that she was going to marry George, he rides to Trenwith to confront Elizabeth. It is late and the doors to Trenwith are locked. Ross breaks in and enters Elizabeth’s bedroom. They argue about her betrothal to George, her disloyalty to Ross, her lies. The clock strikes eleven. In anger Ross loses control and carries Elizabeth to the bed. What happens that night is unknown to the reader. We do know that Demelza is home waiting. She falls asleep at four and wakes up at six to hear him come into the house. Ross has been gone for several hours. Was he with Elizabeth, in her bed, making love all night?
(Description of Ross and Elizabeth’s encounter is from the book Warleggan. Ross carried her to the bed and the reader is told no more. Description of Elizabeth’s clothes and bedroom are taken from the book Warleggan as well)

    Summary

He was not proud of what he had done. Regret was now his constant companion, as was shame. Intimacy with anyone other than his wife was cheap, shallow…unworthy to be compared to the true, deep devotion shared with the woman who was his equal in life. He had no excuse to offer Demelza, however. Words were useless, futile…particularly when everything, including his heart and mind, were so torn asunder by his actions.

An introspective piece surrounding the events of S2/Warleggan (book).

    Happy Reading.

    Summary

    “Well, what will folks say?”

“I haven’t the faintest notion nor do I care,” Ross declared gruffly, striding back towards Demelza. “It’s not in my power to please everyone, so I must think only of the two people concerned in the matter.” He took her hand in his, “As one of them, may I say I’d be most grateful if you’d consent to marrying me for my sake and not for the sake of idle gossips.”

An introspective piece for both Ross and Demelza on the events leading up to their marriage - to include the proposal that we didn't see or hear in the series or the books.

    Summary

Perhaps if Ross had not returned from the war, if he had sunk as most had wanted him to in the stormy sea, perhaps then, he would've died at peace.

Nampara in ruins, his father dead, debt on his doorstep and his beloved wed to his cousin, Ross Poldark has developed the worst luck in all of Cornwall. When his life comes apart further and an illegal trade goes wrong, he faces the gallows. The only person able to save his life, is the very man who got him into this predicament, George Warleggan.

However, when the devil offers a deal, there is always a price.

OR: A retelling of the story of Ross Poldark, where I get to punish people who I think got off too lightly in the show and Ross embraces his darker side. Oh, and Ross x George, because who doesn't see the sexual tension????
