The man was smirking at her and she was tempted to just throw the color strips at him with a scream of frustration. How had this become her life? Oh yes, in another life, the "unkillable" hybrid had turned up on her doorstep looking for doppelgänger blood. The very much no longer immortal Klaus Mikaelson had wanted to use her blood to make himself immortal again, but it hadn't quite gone how he'd wanted it to. In that..it hadn't worked at all…

    After living a long life with her husband and those she loved dearly, Elena is content to join him in Peace when they reach the end of their days. But instead, she wakes up in her seventeen year old body at the beginning of it all. Maybe, just maybe, this is her chance to keep everyone she loves alive and spend eternity with the man she loved in another life.

    “We’ve got to stop meeting like this, dearest,” He chuckles in his native tongue, and she whips around to face him, her hands— Tatias hands— gripped tightly to her nightgown as her tears fall.

    As soon as he takes notice of her panicked expression, she’s wrapped in the comfort of his arms; she shakes her head and whispers, “I shouldn’t be here— it should’ve worked, I shouldn’t be here—“ the same way she whispered the incantation that was meant to save her life; desperately, hopelessly, praying Bonnie can hear her whispered words one thousand years away."

    Elena warns Elijah of Esther's intentions, not knowing the witch had a contingency plan in place, linking Elena to the Originals and cursing her with a terminal illness.

    The only cure is 1,000 years in the past, and Elena returns with much more than an unlinking spell.

    Mikael knows the child is not his, but it is the first time since his darling Freya that he has felt any semblance of joy. Kol and Rebekah follow the child that was not his, and it is when Rebekah is born that he finds out another dark truth. He begs Ayana to help him get his children away from Esther, fearing that if she could give up their beloved Freya, she could sacrifice any of the others any time she saw fit. She agrees to help him, but tells him it will come at a great risk. As long as his children are safe, he does not care. Perhaps he should have asked for another way when she told him not where but when she would be sending him. But really, how much would the world change in a thousand years? Apparently, much more than he ever thought possible. He and his children end up in the woods not far from their village, but the village is no more, and Mikael is no longer so certain he will be able to protect his children as well as he thought.

     

    (In which Mikael knows Klaus is not his but blames his wife instead of the child, and does everything in his power to keep his children safe, which results in him and the children being sent forward to Mystic Falls in July of 2000)

    “Why do you want to reach him? I would think that, knowing what you know, you would want to be far away from him.”

    “It’s not like I want to die,” Elena says as reassuringly as she can. Caroline and Bonnie took some convincing, but they no longer loudly protest when the subject arises, which is progress. “I just don’t want to wait around for it to pop up out of nowhere, you know?"

    OR: Elena can talk to ghosts, learns about Klaus's curse, and decides she's not just waiting for him to surprise her.
