Summary
What if there were three boys for whom the prophecy could have applied? What if Hermione's background was not what it seemed? What if Regulus didn't actually die in 1979? What if the magic of love was more important than we were led to believe?
A retelling of the series we know so well. Starts to deviate from canon during Fourth Year.
****“Has Dumbledore told you why I defected?” Snape asked him suddenly.
“He didn’t need to,” Reg replied. “I was here that night as well, and I heard the prophecy in its entirety.” He noticed a morose grimace on Severus' face.
“He’s after Lily. What am I to do?” his friend asked with desperation in his voice.
“We protect them. Lily isn’t the only one who delivered a son in July. Felicia also gave birth to a son. Alice Longbottom as well.” He took Severus’ other shoulder with his free hand so that he was clutching him with both hands. “You listen to me, Severus Snape. We will protect the women we love, and we will watch over their children. We owe them that much.
Sev nodded, and Regulus could see the unshed tears in his eyes.
“We protect them,” he repeated.
“We protect them,” Severus agreed. -

Summary
To live life to the fullest, like you'll die the next day, is an accomplishment few manage to achieve, and to give your life for those you love - the ultimate sacrifice - is something that takes incredible courage. If something could be said for Lily Evans and James Potter, it was that they were very good at living, but they were also very good at dying.
