Thomas always noticed how Newt pressed his lips together, jaw locked, everytime he and Thomas shared silent glances.
Thomas noticed how his own stomach clenched everytime that happened. How he wished Newt was closer.
How he started to wonder how many freckles Newt had now. Maybe if he got close enough, he would be able to count them.
That thought was never able to grow just enough. And Thomas was always the one to look away first.

Putting the picture back on his desk, Newt smiles. “Miss you,” he whispers, directed at Photograph Tina. She smiles back at him, causing a small smile to form on his own face.

Newt chuckles, moving to sit by his wife. He flicks his wand again and the fireplace roars to life. “So, what's next on our agenda?”
“Rest."

“NO!” Tina snaps. “I don't want to hear any of this ‘We're not sure, it'll take a long time to figure it out’ bullshit!” She slams her hand on the desk in front of her, trying to bite back her tears. “I don't care if there aren't enough people to be put on this case. That is my husband- your brother- out there, possibly being tortured to death as we speak. I will take this whole goddamn case ALONE if I need to!”

Newt shakes his head. It's silent in the room for a bit, the only sound being the heavy breathing and sniffling coming from the couple and the sound of rain hitting the roof.
“What was your father like?” Newt whispers, breaking the silence.
