Summary
Danny is already over his lifetime radiation limit. Living with a portal to another dimension in the basement will do that to a person. So he really shouldn’t even be here at all, he shouldn’t be anywhere near any nuclear facility, and certainly not one experiencing a critical failure.
But he’s the only hero on the scene, the only one who can phase through the partially collapsed building and shut down the reactor before it overloads.
He knows this is going to kill him fully.
He’s just sorry he’s going to be leaving people behind.

Jay watched as Danny blushed harder than he’d ever seen him, folding in on himself like the shiny booth seating was going to hide him. Strangely, though, he did manage to get his hands and elbows to escape through the seating. It was clear he wanted the rest of his body to follow.
“You want to sit with me and Danny Boy for lunch?”
Duke blinked and looked over, pleasantly befuddled to see Danny sitting there. He blushed a deep berry color and smiled. The man seemed to legitimately consider his brother’s offer before regrettably thinking better of it and shaking his head. “I better not,” he said wistfully, “it’s a nice day out so I promised Damian I’d walk Titus with him at lunch time,” Duke did tend to walk on lunch when the weather was nice, “but I’ll rain check you for it”
Jason noticed his brother wasn’t looking at him. His attention was entirely on his companion.
Danny cleared his throat before he answered. “Sure,” he managed, “sounds great”
Duke smiled and left the break room with his lunch to go eat at his desk. Once their co-worker was out of ear shot, Jason began to lay into him. “You really killed him with that one, Casanova”

Summary
Duke gets his prize for winning laser tag.
Takes place during chapter 2 of Shining Just for You.“Whatever. Just know this means we’re coming back, and I’m settling the score.” Keeping up a sour attitude in the face of Duke’s glee is near impossible. Danny hates losing, but the slim defeat doesn’t sting at all when Duke’s flushed and beaming.
“Whatever,” Duke mocks. “Just know this means I win a prize.”
Heat floods through Danny - reddening his face and making his stomach clench. He licks his lips. Gets distracted as Duke follows his tongue with his eyes. Danny struggles for a moment to speak, wavering on his feet as he resists surging up to kiss Duke. He’s only a little hoarse when he finally speaks. “Got an idea of what you’d like?”
Punctuates it by leaning in, making sure their hips slot together and trails his hands up Duke’s chest. To his shoulders, draping his arms there.
Duke takes a long deep breath. A part of Danny feels vindicated to challenge Duke’s self-control. “Yeah.” Then Duke gives back as good as Danny gave with a press of lips against his neck with a hint of teeth. “Yeah, let’s get out of here.”

The class project from Mr. Lancer was supposed to last only a semester. Danny figured he’d do the minimum three letters to be exchanged with the one school Lancer could find willing to be Casper High School’s partner, write the stupid ‘journal’ entry on what he learned from the experience, and be done with it. But here it was, more than a year and countless letters later.
What do you even say to a penpal? ‘Hi, the weather here was great, the weather report warns the town if my dad is expected on the road and my Calc test got rescheduled because the Lunch Lady didn’t like the new dessert options’?
Turns out, just that. Because Danny gets back ‘That sucks, dude. It rained here, my foster brother got kidnapped again and he’s sad. Lunch Lady and Condiment King should never meet. I think I still smell like relish from his attack last week’.
